Recommending Dining in the area

The owners of the Norseman Restaurant and Gaia Art Gallery in L'Anse aux Meadows invite their customers to 'sit, relax and enjoy the harvest of Newfoundland's own earth and waters'. And that's exactly what you'll get at this singular eatery that blends tradition with innovation to create a dining experience unlike any other. All cold drinks are served with iceberg ice, which can be tens of thousands of years old. Among the highlights on the menu are local lamb, caribou tenderloin, plump scallops in white wine sauce and the freshest lobster you'll ever encounter. How fresh? Well, the lobsters are kept in an enclosed crate in the ocean, just feet from the restaurant. If you order a lobster, you'll be given a pair of rubber boots and brought down to the wharf to pick out whichever lobster looks tastiest! Add to that one of the province's finest collections of indigenous arts (soapstone and antler carvings, clothing and jewellery, Innu teadolls, watercolour and oil paintings and photographs) in the attached Gaia Gallery, and it's not difficult to see why 'Where to Eat in Canada' ,'Frommer's' and 'Fodors' all list the Norseman as one of the top restaurants in Newfoundland and Labrador. Live music some evenings. 1(877)623-2018
